The Boone County School System continues to implement new practices in an attempt to better serve the students and their parents/guardians.  This is evidenced in the revisions being implemented in the operations of the Child Nutrition Office with the opening of the 2009/2010 school year.  The school system will be implementing a centralized billing system that will be utilized for the convenience of our parents/guardians at each of our schools.  This program has been successfully implemented in various school systems throughout West Virginia.

Students will no longer be required or expected to carry money for lunch or breakfast to school each day.  Additionally, students will no longer be expected to bring bills home on a monthly basis for breakfasts and lunches.  Students will simply need to provide the clerk in the lunch or breakfast line their student ID number when getting a meal at school.  Statements will be generated on a monthly basis, based on the meals eaten by the student, and mailed home at the end of each month.  These statements will be mailed by City National Bank and contain the address in which payment is to be submitted using the envelope provided to parents/guardians.  When remitting payment, it is important to include the payment stub with your check to assure that payment is credited to the appropriate account.

If you elect to do so, you may pre-pay for student meals.  You may do so by providing payment in excess of the amount identified on the monthly statement received.  If you elect to take advantage of this offering, the account of your son or daughter will be credited and the costs of the meals eaten will be deducted and noted on the next monthly statement.

All attempts have been made to mail Free/Reduced Meal Applications to the home of every student during the summer months.  If you have not received an application, please contact the Child Nutrition Office at (304) 369-8248.

The West Virginia Department and the West Virginia Board of Education recognize that good nutrition enhances learning and quality of life.  For that reason, the West Virginia Board of Education has adopted Policy 4321.1, “Standards for School Nutrition”.  This policy outlines the requirement that all schools must follow regarding foods made available to students during the school day.  It states that all foods made available to students during the school day must meet the nutritional requirements outlined and not simply the food provided to students during breakfast and/or lunch.
