•       Parent Page

•          Did You Know? As a parent of a student in Boone County Schools, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child’s classroom teachers and requires us to give you this information in a timely manner if you ask for it. Specifically, you have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child’s classroom teachers:

•          •  Certification areas in which the teacher is including the grades/subjects this individual may teach.

•

•          •  Whether West Virginia Department of Education Certification Department has decided that the teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.

•          • The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees.

•          •  Whether any teachers’ aides or similar paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.

•          If you would like to receive any of this information, please contact your school Principal or Nora Dotson, Coordinator of Federal Programs and Technology at 304.369.8250 or by email at ndotson@access.k12.wv.us

•       Complaints Procedure

•    COMPLAINTS BY THE PUBLIC

•

•      It is recognized that from time to time members of the public may have legitimate complaints or justifiable grievances for which they seek redress.  As a general rule, all complaints should be written and signed by the complainant.  Solutions for complaints or grievances should be sought first at the lowest possible decision making level in the organization.  Thus, a citizen who has a complaint about or with a teacher should first seek to resolve the dispute with the applicable teacher.  If this does not solve the problem, the complainant then should seek redress from the principal, Superintendent, and the Board of Education, in that order.

•      Complainants who seek first action from the Board or Superintendent shall be directed to seek a solution to their problem from the involved teacher or principal before the Superintendent or Board shall enter the case.
